Bankers pressure Senate leaders to avoid credit union bill

By Pete Kasperowicz – The American Bankers Association (ABA) and the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) on Thursday called on Senate leaders not to take up legislation that would expand the ability of credit unions to lend to small businesses.

Earlier in the day, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he would push for a vote on a stand-alone credit union bill in the near future, and implied that the bill deserves a vote in light of Sen. Mark Udall‘s (D-Colo.) relentless efforts to pass it. He also acknowledged opposition from banks, but said a vote would be held nonetheless. more> http://is.gd/QWeuzf
