- On Monday, the Senate rejected the so-called “Buffett Rule,” which would have added a new minimum tax of 30% of all income earned on top of the current tax code.
- This week, the House will hold two hearings on the excessive and wasteful spending of the General Services Administration (GSA): the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Monday and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on Tuesday.
- Tuesday is both Tax Day and Tax Freedom Day, the day Americans have finally earned enough to pay all our taxes for the year.
- Also on Tuesday, the House will vote on H.R. 4089, the Sportsmen’s Heritage Act, which would ease the use of firearms on federal land.
- On Wednesday, the House will vote on H.R. 9, the Small Business Tax Cut Act, providing a one-year 20% tax deduction for small businesses with fewer than 500 workers.
- On Wednesday and Thursday, the House is expected to work and vote on the Surface Transportation Extension Act of 2012, Part II, which would extend federal highway programs for an additional 90 days and approve the entire Keystone XL pipeline.
