- Rep. Sam Graves (MO-06) introduced H.R. 5393, the Export Coordination Act of 2012, which will help reduce duplication and wasteful spending of federal trade promotion agencies during the export process.
- Rep. Scott Tipton (CO-03) introduced H.R. 5513, the Transparent Rules Allow Direct Exporting (TRADE) for Small Businesses and Jobs Act, which will help small businesses increase their exports and enter new markets by better understanding foreign regulations.
- Rep. Jeff Flake (AZ-06) introduced H.R. 5381, the Commonsense Legislative Exceptional Events Reform (CLEER) Act, which will ease the EPA regulatory burden for states with natural dust occurrences.
- Rep. Tom McClintock (CA-04) gathered signatures for a letter encouraging an open appropriations process, which urges House leadership to bring all twelve appropriations bills to the floor independently and under open rules. This is a non-controversial but significant step toward curbing spending and bringing transparency and accountability back to the spending process.
- On May 9, the House approved H.R. 2072, the Securing American Jobs Through Exports Act, which reauthorizes the Export-Import Bank and raises the agency’s statutory lending cap from $100 billion to $140 billion.
- On May 10, the House approved H.R. 5326 the Commerce and Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act which provide $51.131 billion in funding for Commerce, Justice and Science programs for FY 2013.
- Also on May 10, the House approved H.R. 5652, the Sequester Replacement Reconciliation Act of 2012, which partially replaces with targeted spending cuts the first year of automatic, across-the-board spending cuts resulting from last summer’s debt ceiling agreement.
- This week, the Senate will debate and vote on reauthorization of the Ex-Im Bank. Also throughout the week, a House-Senate Conference Committee will continue to work on legislation to reauthorize federal transportation programs.
- On Wednesday, the House will vote on H.R. 4970, the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2012
- On Wednesday through Friday, the House will consider H.R. 4310, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013.
- This Friday and Saturday is the 38th G8 summit at Camp David.
- This Saturday is Armed Forces Day.
- This Sunday starts the 2012 NATO summit in Chicago.
- National Small Business Week begins this Sunday and lasts through May 26.
