The Dangerous Synergy Between The Nanny State And Universal Health Care


By Paul Hsieh, MD – New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg recently proposed restrictions on sales of sugared drinks, on the grounds that the government must do more to fight obesity.

The recurring theme: The government must limit our freedoms to limit overall medical costs. But this issue can only arise in “universal” health systems where taxpayers must pay for everyone else’s medical expenses.

Terminal money, which accounts for 80 percent of revenue, has helped the company hire more reporters and editors than anyone else on the planet—more than 2,700 of them—over the last 20 years, from Abuja, Nigeria, to Zagreb, Croatia. More recently it has launched powerful new tools for lobbyists, lawmakers, and other power brokers. Long averse to acquisitions, Bloomberg has also started buying up things it covets, like Businessweek magazine and, just this August, the legal-political research behemoth BNA. New York police evict anti-Wall Street protesters

By Michelle Nichols – Wearing helmets and carrying shields and batons, hundreds of police dismantled the sea of tents, tarps and protests signs at Zuccotti Park, arresting 147 people, including about a dozen who had chained themselves to each other and to trees.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the park owners, commercial real estate corporation Brookfield Office Properties, had decided that the protesters had become a health and fire safety hazard to themselves and the local community. more> http://tinyurl.com/bwuhek4
