Vuuch Makes Product Development Social

By Beth Stackpole – One of the more vocal candidates in the social field is Vuuch, which bills itself as an enterprise social software provider. In 2010, we reported on its adding of a social networking layer to traditional CAD, PLM, and desktop tools like Microsoft Word and Excel.

One of the most common reasons engineers are hesitant to apply social networking conventions to serious development work is they perceive a lot of what goes on in networks like Facebook (like “Friending”) as frivolous. Vuuch takes a different view of social relationships. It draws connections and keeps teams centered on discussions based on specific work deliverables, not person-to-person relationships. more> http://tinyurl.com/blp5jjm

EU court rules against social networks policing the internet

EurActiv.com/Reuters – The Luxembourg-based European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruled in a case involving two Belgian companies, music royalty collecting society SABAM and online social network Netlog.

“The owner of an online social network cannot be obliged to install a general filtering system, covering all its users, in order to prevent the unlawful use of musical and audio-visual work,” the ECJ said in a statement.

“Such an injunction would result in a serious infringement of Netlog’s freedom to conduct its business since it would require Netlog to install a complicated, costly, permanent computer system at its own expense,” it said. more> http://is.gd/6GMA4S
