By Andrew Colley – (Australia) During the same period Telstra lost 30,000 fixed-line broadband customers while its wireless subscriber base grew by 279,000, 73 per cent more than in the same period the previous year.
Add to that claims that wireless connections will soon be capable of theoretical speeds of 80Mbps, a touch slower than the 100Mbps fibre links Labor wants for 90 per cent of us, and the question as to whether it’s wise invest $43bn in a new fixed-line network starts to look even more valid.
The way mobile operators and fixed-line operators use terminology to describe internet speeds is inconsistent and creates an unrealistic expectation that wireless technology can match terrestrial services. http://bwbx.io/FF3u
